My Thoughts On The World Right Now

Updated: Sep 23, 2020

It breaks my heart to see the state that our world is in right now—the fact that systemic racism, racial injustice, and police brutality still exist. It’s 2020 and we still haven’t learned from history but are finally bringing these issues to the surface. The most frustrating part for me is the lack of empathy and compassion that humans have for each other; creating unnecessary hate. There’s so much information available, ignornace is not bliss. Be uncomfortable and educate yourself on what you don’t understand and don’t stay silent. Everyone has a voice, use it.

Standing with the BLM means I realize that being black is an oppressed group. We must lift others up that don’t have the same privilege purely due to the color of their skin. I’m not saying I haven’t experienced racism but as an Asian American woman, I don’t have the fear of potentially being shot and killed anytime I encounter a police officer.

For those who have trouble understanding, a great example I read was: if a house was on fire, would you try to put out the whole neighborhood or would you put your efforts into extinguishing the ONE that’s actively burning? This is why All Lives Matter is irrelevant and selfish. We’re a community, we must stand up for the injustice and call out those showing hatred or doing wrong.

I understand that I’ll never understand. However, I stand for Black Lives Matter. I‘m usually very open-minded and respect all opinions but if you don’t stand for this then I would suggest you reevaluate your choice to be ignorant.
